\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Ten Commandments and the Cleansing of the Temple make one thing clear: We are invited to live in God's house as his children, according to his commands and his wisdom. The wisdom of God, though, includes the Cross.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis week we consider the connection between the Baptism of Jesus, his Transfiguration, and eventual death on the Cross prefigured by the sacrifice of Abraham. These three events in the life of Christ are all connected by the revelation of Jesus's sonship to the Father. As we continue Lent, we would do well to internalize the Pasachal Mystery as part of our own relation to God as sons and daughters.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis last Sunday in Ordinary Time (before Lent) invites us to consider Jesus's power to heal us. Will you go to confession to respond to this invitation? Will you receive the medicine of our salvation in the sacrament of the Eucharist? In these last few days of Ordinary Time we can be thinking of how Lent will be a special time of renewal and healing for those who seek the Lord.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOften we think of preaching as a special time for a learned teacher to offer pearls of wisdom to those who are interested, when in truth preaching is an act of the Holy Spirit that moves through the preacher to communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ. With such a noble end, woe to us if we do not allow the Spirit to work in us with such power.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat does it mean to call Jesus "Lord"? In today's readings we consider the impact of "trying to make it on our own" without recognizing Jesus's authority over us. In the end, this may be the source of all of our anxieties.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLike last week, the readings present the call of the disciples. This time, though, the focus is on the urgent need to respond to God's call. It is true, God is patient, but we are invited to respond with diliegence.

\n\n\n\n\n\nSocial Media/Redes Sociales
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe question is not whether God will call you, but how and to what. Too often we respond with generosity, but are told "that's not how we do things". God is always inviting us to respond with newness and life. With today's readings we pause to consider how God is calling us to be creative and zealous in our response to his invitation.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLike Christmas, the feast of the Epiphany is not just an invitation to remember a past event. It is also an invitation to encounter the risen Lord in the same way as those priviliged to be with him in his first coming. Those of us awaiting his return are also able to visit him and encounter his divinity ... if we're willing to make the journey.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMerry Christmas! The first Sunday of Christmastide is upon us, and today we focus on the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. How do we live as nuclear families? What about in the Church? Do we treat everyone as family? Or, are there still strangers among us?

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter two weeks of "preparing the way" with John the Baptist, this week we are given the figure of the Blessed Mother. After preparing the way of the Lord, are we able to be surprised by the Lord? Perhaps, like Mary, God is planning to come into your life in a new and beautiful way. Prepare the way, but be ready for anything.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe have a repeat appearance this week of St. John the Baptist. This week, though, he defends himself against the temptation to make of himself equal to Christ. Here we see him overcoming the voice of deception by "testing the spirits". If we are to be holy, we must test everything, choosing only that which conduces to Christ increasing, and us decreasing.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis week the central character in our readings is St. John the Baptist. How do we, like him, prepare the way of the Lord and make straight his paths? Perhaps this is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of going to Confession during this season, and thereby make a clear path to our hears for the Lord.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn this First Sunday of Advent the readings invite us to vigilance. Rather than being hypervigilant, though, what if Jesus' invitation to "Wait" and to "Be Alert" is really an invitation to pray? Perhaps this Advent we can take some time to find the Lord where he comes everyday: in the silence and stillness of our hearts.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThough it is right to imitate the saints in their earthly example, narrated in their biographies and journals, it is also necessary (and perhaps more urgent) to imitate them in their current activity. The saints, right now, in heaven, are resting in the Lord. What does it mean to rest well? Rather than focusing this All Saints Day on how much more work we need to do to bring about the Kingdom, perhaps we would do well to imitate the saints in Glory who have found their eternal rest.

\n\nThe guys consider the kinds of "walls" we have built up around our hearts, and how God may be tearing them down to allow us to be completely dependent on him.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe vineyard theme continues this week in the parable of the two sons who are sent to work by their father. In the end, the only antidote to ideology is to have a change of mind, and to be conformed to Christ.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe readings for the 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time focus on how we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. As Christians we should preach the gospel using everything at our disposal, but making sure to give God the glory. One of the dangers we may face, though, is false humilty. How many times have you played down your strengths for fear of coming off as arrogant? Well, ironically, by doing that we aren't giving God any glory because he gave us our strengths (and our weaknesses) to shine brightly before men and to give glory to our heavenly Father.

Following in the long line of apostles, from Peter and Paul and down through the ages, Christians today are to preach Jesus so that the Church may be united under her one Head.
